Mai Yamaguchi

Mai Yamaguchi teaches social work and conducts research on elderly care issues at Japan Lutheran College. She addresses the ageing Japanese population and the complexities of carer issues in Japan, seeking to inform government policy and to raise popular involvement. The lack of government commitment as well as the fragmented reform toward caring for elderly and those with dementia, have often put a strain on informal caregivers to the point of desperation. Mai also maintains expertise in national and international carer issues as the Director of Carers Japan.
